About The X Factor

The X-Factor is a hugely popular singing contest, watched by millions, to find the UK's next big pop talent, with a big money recording contract prize. Watch it live on ITV and streaming online on the ITV Player.

The X Factor Is Marked Every Year by a Wave of Anticipation, Speculation, Media Coverage and Social Media Chatter.

Love It or Hate It, you have to watch it. It's Hard to Escape X Factor Mania!

Beginning life in 2004, The X Factor is the brainchild of music mogul Simon Cowell. With a judging panel of four well-known music figures and hosted by the hugely likeable Dermot O'Leary, the show starts by travelling up and down the country holding auditions. TV coverage of the audition rounds showcases the best, and sometimes the worst, of the country's singing talent - varying between heart-stopping beautiful performances and acts with dubious talent levels – sometimes to hilarious effect. At these stages, the judges decide who to send through to the next round – with boot camp and judges houses preceding the live shows. The X Factor's success depends largely upon the judges – providing compelling extremely-watchable TV online with honest, sometimes cutting critiques. The current judging line-up is The X Factor veteran Louis Walsh, Take That front man Gary Barlow, former judge Sharon Osbourne is back, and ex Pussycat Doll Nicole Scherzinger. Renowned for spats, harsh words and tantrums, especially during the live shows, the judging panel is a constant source of entertainment for viewers. The live shows occupy a prime time ITV weekend slot, with Saturday live performances focused around a particular theme. Each judge is responsible for mentoring a particular group of contestants– adding a further competitive edge to the show as one singer leaves each week. With singing talent, stage presence and emotional stories all working in their favor, contestants are ultimately competing for a cool £1 million recording contract with Syco Music.
